Alumni Highlights

Holly Ohlaug, Class of 2010: Holly is one of five outstanding POLAHS young women now attending the California Maritime Academy! Holly says that her Boat Operations class at POLAHS inspired her to major in Marine Transportation. "Whether on a ship or in the classroom, students wear uniforms at Cal Maritime. They are a big expense. The scholarship I received helps pay for my uniforms, and I'm really thankful for that," said Holly.

Pedram Farhang, Class of 2010: Our 2010 Salutarian maintained a 4.0 GPA at POLAHS while participating on the Student Council, playing Basketball, and coordinating the publication of our Yearbook. He was also an LAPD Cadet with over 300 hours of community service. Pedram received $6000 in scholarship awards from POLAHS, which helped him facilities dream of attending UC Berkeley, where he is now taking courses in Economics, Business Administration, and Molecular Cell Biology!

 

Sophia Lopez, Class of 2009: POLAHS' 2009 Valedictorian, Sophia Lopez, is a junior at UC Berkeley. She runs into Pedram often, and likes having a friend from San Pedro up north. In high school, Sophia knew she wanted to pursue journalism, but college tuition fees seemed overwhelming. Sophia told us, "my family has always encouraged me to go to college, but they were not capable funding. Receiving a large scholarship from a POLAHS sponsor has really made all the difference."
