combining like terms we talked about combining like terms we use the word like like means that there is the same variable and same exponent some examples would be all of the terms that end in an X x 50s -3x those are all examples of a like term in combining like terms do you use either the plus or minus that is front of it for example we have positive 3x + 4x has that means we have three of something plus four of the same thing if we add 3 + 4 we will get seven so now we have seven now we can't get a little more advanced and that is when we have more than one like turn for example we have 5S here and we have two x here we also have a whole number -6 and a whole number -1 anything that underline once we want to combine together so we have 5 x + 2 x that gives us seven exes we also have negative 6 - 1 negative 6 minus one would give us negative 7 4 - 7 from there we can even get more advanced and have more than one variable we still want to keep them separate from this case we have Negative X positive X positive 3 axes then we have positive for y -2 positive for why anything that has a single line under it you want to combine Negative X Plus snacks are going to cancel each other out so we are left with three we don't have positive for y - 2y plus four more wise that will give us six wise now we also have what's called exponents so you're looking at bike terms we want to make sure that we know what a like term is in this problem we have x squared plus borax + 3 -2 -2X plus x squared from here we have x squared and another expert this cannot be combined with the just the X's x squared and X are not like terms this is 4X and we have a -2X our last one would be our constant or our numbers so combined all of the things that are underlined one time which would be x square with x plus x squared plus 2x squared 4 x -2 x which gives us positive to act and then we had positive 3 - 2 which gives us positive one and that would be our final answer combining like terms
