Mar. 9, 2012 | POLAHS' First USAFA Appointment

Cadets graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. Mark submitted his admissions application last fall with nominations from Senator Barbara Boxer and Congresswoman Maxine Waters, 35th District.
 
Only 1,200 students are accepted out of nearly 12,000 applicants. This distinct honor is equivalent to a scholarship valued at $414,000.
 
The POLAHS community is incredibly proud of Mark, who is an outstanding scholar and well-respected amongst his classmates. "I feel like I've physically and mentally prepared myself throughout my time at POLAHS, and I have the courage and discipline to stand out as a member of the Academy," Mark said about his appointment. Over the past six years, Mark has participated in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), a youth auxiliary to the Air Force. The cadet program teaches leadership and military discipline, in addition to aerospace education, emergency services, career pathways, and military customs and courtesy.
 
Mark's other accomplishments include:
• POLAHS Student Council; 4 years
• POLAHS Cross Country & Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA)
• Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar with Honors; received at least a 3.25 score on all exams taken
• Principal's Honor Roll; 4.4 GPA overall
• CAP Amelia Earhart Award; demonstrating leadership ability
• CAP Commander's Commendation; leading CyberPatriot team to nation competition
• Student of the Month, San Pedro Rotary Club
