The following information just came out from the State CIF office:
April 30, 2021
Re: CIF 2020-21 Participation Census
Due to the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to education-based athletics,
the CIF State Office will not be conducting the annual participation census for the 2020-
21 school year.
However, this does not negate California law (Education Code Section 221.9) that
requires all public primary, secondary, and charter schools offering competitive
interscholastic athletics to report on their school website (or district website if no school
site exists) information about boys’ and girls’ athletic participation by the end of each

As you may know, the weekly county COVID-19 adjusted case rate was released today. The Los Angeles County rate is 12.3. Last week the Governor, in conjunction with the CDPH, released new guidance in the return to play for high school sports. Outdoor sport competitions are allowed to resume on February 26 once a county’s adjusted case rate falls below 14 cases per 100,000 people. Please find attached the current Education-Based Athletics COVID-19 Modifications as well as the data chart showing the county’s numbers.
Even though the county has met the guidance requirements, your district/charter/school MUST give their approval as well. You will need to contact those entities to know when you will be able to proceed.

The latest from Vicky Lagos, CIF Commissioner on Sport Competition Modifications:
Please find attached the update from the CDPH and CIF State office in regards to Education-Based Athletics and the current COVID-19 modifications.
While this is exciting news and a step forward, we still have a long way to go.
Understand that schools may only have competition when Los Angeles County meets the adjusted case rate of 14 to 100,000 cases or below. The data comes out each Tuesday. Until that time those sports not in the qualifying tier can only condition. Also, the county health department, your district or charter, or school can choose to make things more stringent.
I encourage you to read in entirety the CDPH bulletin. https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/outdoor-indoor-recreational-sports.aspx. You will find information, both mandates and recommendations, for requirements for participation, testing, travel, guidelines for spectators, return to sport after infection, etc.
The State CIF will follow-up with FAQ’s shortly.
Have a great weekend!
