Mar. 6, 2012 | Rotary Student of the Year

Eleventh grader Bailey Duarte was recently honored as San Pedro's Student of the Year by the Rotary Club — an honor usually reserved for twelfth grade students.

Bailey has led the POLAHS chapter of Interact, a Rotary international youth organization, through 800 hours of servicing local non-profit organizations like the YWCA. "The teachers at POLAHS really care about me, I feel safe here, and I have a lot to be grateful for. I want to share that kindness with others. The Interact Club allows me to do that," she says. Bailey tutors after school at Leland Street Elementary, while maintaining a 3.8 GPA and playing on the POLAHS volleyball team. She discovered a love for marine biology through volunteering at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, and plans on majoring in the field in college. Congratulations, Bailey!
