Alumnus Update:

Meet Jorge Anaya (POLAHS ‘15).

He attended Yale University and graduated in May 2019, with a major in “History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health.” Jorge received a fellowship and is currently working for the Yale Dean’s Office and the Center for Teaching and Learning, on initiatives to make the university more accessible to first generation, low-income students. He plans to pursue a Master’s in Public Health and go into hospital administration, or a Master’s in Student Affairs and go into higher education. Jorge says that college felt like a second home because of the friends he made.

POLAHS prepared him well for college. “I had great college counselors and great teachers to inspire me to do well academically. POLAHS gave me the self confidence to take initiative in the things that inspire me and to be very involved in the community. I was Valedictorian, in the National Honors Society, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. I was also a Questbridge Scholar,” he shared.

Jorge says that his favorite POLAHS memory is his AP US History class with Mr. Yourman. While it was a very difficult class, it was always a lot of fun!

His advice to current students: “Truly enjoy your time at POLAHS. I still think very fondly of my time at POLAHS and miss a lot of things about it. Also, never limit yourself on what you think you can achieve. There are so many great opportunities out there, and all students are capable of making a difference in the world.” 🌎

POLAHS is proud of you, Jorge!!
